A Cheaper Alternative to Candle Tarts

I have these all over my house.  And love them.

I try to stock up on tarts when Yankee Candle has them on sale for $1 but don't always make it.  5 or 6 of these around the house can get kinda pricey because honestly after about 5 or 6 burns I just don't smell the scent anymore.  I accidentally found a cheaper way to fill them.

Awhile back I had a 'oh, what a cool idea moment' and purchased a couple of the warmer plates thinking it would be a safer way to 'burn' my candles. Well, what I didn't think about was that in order to smell a 24 oz jar candle you have to spend 5 hours waiting on it to melt from the bottom to the top each time.  Or the fact that when you cut it off the first time and it solidifies burning is out because your wick is now at the bottom of the candle.  So I stuck them in the cabinet and forgot about them until the other day when I had a revelation while looking for tea lights .  Why not break it into pieces and use in my warmers?!?!?!?!

I went and got a cheap knife from my drawer and attempted to break it up.  I was amazed by how simple it was.  I thought it was possibly due to the fact it had melted before but I have since done it with new candles.

The thing I love most about using the jar candles is that I can add a little bit every few days and keep the scent going!  A 24 jar candle that I paid $15.99 for has lasted me 3 months!  $15.99 versus the $60.00 I would have spent on tarts that were on sale.  It does lock me into my scents a little but there really are only a few I love anyway.

  1. Brilliant. I love melting my candles on a warmer, I usually use small ones so they don't take five hours to melt, but this is an even better idea! Thanks for sharing :D

  5. Good idea for using your candles so there is no waste. Thanks for coming to Your Cozy Home Party. I do have an important request for you and that is to link back to my blog. That is a requirement for joining Any party as a courtesy to the host. The purpose of having a party is to get viewers for you and for the host. If you don't link back to the host many viewers are lost which is not fair to the person taking the time and effort to pay for having the party and for all the follow up like this comment. I love having you and your great ideas at my party so please take just a few seconds to link back as the other party goers do. I hope you take this in the spirit it is given which is a friendly, gentle reminder to follow the rules so you won't be deleted.---------- Shannon

  8. That's a fantastic idea! You could also look into Pink Zebra. They have sprinkles and we love them. It's not quite as cheap as recycling old candles, but they're awesome.:) I love candles.
